Plane Crash in Indonesia: Boeing 737 Crashes in Jakarta

A Boeing 737 plane crash in Indonesia has shaken the aviation world.

A Sriwijaya-Airlines airplane with 62 people on board crashed in the sea area off of Jakarta, Indonesia, Chinese Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

The plane lost contact soon after taking off from Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

The plane was heading to Pontianak in the West Kalimantan province of Indonesia on a domestic flight.

According to the same news agency, human body parts along with debris have been already found by local authorities in Jakarta’s sea.

The airplane disappeared from radar minutes after its takeoff at 14:30 local time.

Thus far, it remains unknown if any of the passengers or crew members have managed to survive.

“We are aware of media reports from Jakarta regarding Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182. Our thoughts are with the crew, passengers, and their families. We are in contact with our airline customer and stand ready to support them during this difficult time,” Boeing said in a statement.
