Greek doctor and super-athlete Georgios-Ioannis Tsianos topped the highest peak of the world, the summit of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, in the early hours of Friday.

After two years of painful and difficult effort, Tsianos has finally managed to reach the highest point on the Earth.

Tsianos participated in the mission to conquer Everest as a doctor for a team of thirty British athletes who wanted to break the Guinness world record by playing a rugby game at an altitude of 6,400 meters (21,000 feet).

Base Camp by night. Chomolungma, Mother Goddess of the Earth, continues to challenge me in ways I hadn’t expected and in ways I hadn’t prepared myself for. I am accepting it, I am adapting. Once again, she reminds me of who I am, beyond the noise, beyond the surface; she reminds me of my true nature. The struggle is guaranteed, success isn’t; this is the beauty of this place. At this particular moment, for me, it’s time to be present, connect, become one. #everest #chomolungma #sagarmatha #tibet #hellas #greece #thenorthface #dioratikotita #evnia #oark #kathimerini #fleetcomplete #everest2019 #everestnorthface #climbingexpedition #everestclimb #himalayas #himalayan_high #highaltitudeclimbing #everestbasecamp

To make his task even more difficult, Tsianos was forced to go down from the 6,400 meter-level to the base camp at the foot of the mountain in order to transport an athlete who had become ill to the hospital.

But Tsianos refused to stop there, returning up to the high ranges of the mountain and reacclimatizing himself to its extreme altitudes. On Friday, May 24, he finally reached its highest point, at 8,848 meters (29,030 feet).

Tsianos, considered one of the world’s super-athletes, has participated in many difficult missions and quests over the course of many years, and he has been on Everest before, but this was the first time he summitted the incomparable mountain.
