Hong Kong’s High Court on Wednesday cleared a Greek model accused of smuggling cocaine into the city in 2017.
Eirini Melissaropoulou was found not guilty on a count of trafficking in dangerous drugs, and was subsequently released.
Prosecutors accused her of knowingly carrying 2.52kg (5.5lbs) of cocaine in a hidden pocket sewn into her backpack when she arrived in the city from Ethiopia on November 20, 2017.
The 21-year-old defendant denied any role in drug trafficking. She had been held at a Hong Kong correctional facility since her arrest.
