Greek-British Soldier Dies After Battle With ISIS

greek-british-soldierA former Greek-British Royal Marines member became the first Briton to be killed fighting alongside the Kurdish forces against the jihadist Islamic state in Syria, according to BBC.

The 25-year-old soldier, Konstandinos Erik Scurfield died on Tuesday March 3 after succumbing to the wounds he suffered after a battle in the northern province of Hasakah.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights informed AFP that a fighter, who was either British or Greek had died on Tuesday. The news of his death were announced to his family through a British pro-Kurdish activist at the request of the Kurdish Popular Protection Units (YPG).

Furthermore, according to BBC the Foreign Office stated that they were “aware of reports of a Briton dying in Syria.”

“As we do not have any representation in Syria it is extremely difficult to get any confirmation of deaths or injuries and our options for supporting British nationals there are extremely limited,” it said in a statement.

Konstantinos Erik Scurfield is the second soldier from the west who has lost his life alongside Turkish troops after the death of an Australian in the same area last week.

The unfortunate Greek-British soldier’s facebook pages included several references to Greece, as well as the war against the Islamic State. Furthermore, in October 2014 he had posted a Guardian article, which demanded the return of the Parthenon Marbles to Greece.

  1. It’s great to see some Greeks helping Kurds. We need to build a strong relationship with Kurds and help their self-determination. Not only for Kurds but also for collective security against Islamofascist Erdogan.

Absolute right to self-determination is what Erdogan has been arguing with Skopians so its about time Erdogan faces the consequences for his own alleged beliefs. Most of us freed ourselves from Ottoman tyranny. The Kurd’s are still stuck in what’s left of the old Ottoman empire. For years they were ignored by the west because it favoured Turkey. With the rise of neo-Ottoman Islamofascist Erdogan that is about to chance. its about time Kurds were rewarded for their valient effort fighting ISIS by finally received their liberty…. vis-a-vis their own country.

Kurdistan for the Kurds. United Kurdistan.
