A Greek “Hope” in Siberia

In a distant place of the world — Novosibirsk, Siberia — there are some Greeks who keep the Greek spirit alive despite the fact that they are far away from their homeland.

The Greek cultural organization Hope was founded 20 years ago. Hope is responsible for the organization of many events that have been held in Novosibirsk. Now Hope is set to organize the 11th International Youth Festival entitled “Echoes of Greece.” The festival is expected to take place in 2014.

The Hope organization unites Greeks and philhellenes with only one purpose: the preservation of Greek spirit. Marina Mpouksik-Trofimuc is a musician, but also teaches the Greek language.

“I try to do my best. I know a little about the Greek language. Though, this little knowledge I have, I try to impart it to my students with love and passion. It appears that it works after all.”

This year’s festival is devoted to the memory of the organization’s Greek founder, Simeon Ioannidis, who was a director and actor.
