Greek Student Killed in Mexico Car Accident

distihimaIoanna Thomopoulou, a 24-year-old postgraduate student, daughter of a renowned jeweler in Patras, Greece, died in a car accident in Mexico.

Ioanna was a graduate of Media Studies at the Panteion University of Athens, Greece and was conducting postgraduate studies in Belize, Mexico.

Along with her two girlfriends, one from Malta and the other from the USA, they decided to visit Philadelphia, USA, to celebrate at events being held for America’s Independence Day.

They took a taxi to Mexico City’s airport, but on the road and for unknown reasons, the vehicle crashed into a bus which resulted in all three girls being killed as well as the driver.

A few hours later, through the Greek Embassy, Ioanna’s family was informed of the tragic incident. Her parents and sister are devastated and cannot believe what has happened.

It still remains unknown when the young woman’s body will be transferred to the city of Patras.
