Greek Official Dies in Tanzania After Attack

A Greek doctor who was working for the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tanzania died following an attack by unknown men who tried to steal her hand bag, officials said. Petroula Hatzipantazi passed away on Sept. 25 from her injuries.

Authorities said that the unknown perpetrators were driving a car when they attacked Hatzipantazi and in their attempt to take her bag caused her serious injuries. She was immediately transported to a hospital but doctors could not keep her alive.

According to the official announcement of the Greek Ministry, Hatzipantazi was on a special mission of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Tanzania.

Her colleagues and the Ministry described her as a professional official who offered her knowledge on hygiene and support to her co-workers as a doctor. The Ministry and her colleagues expressed their condolences to Hatzipantazi’s family.
