Nikolaos Bouikidis Faces Death Penalty For Meth Smuggling in Indonesia

Greek citizen Nikolaos Bouikidis, 36, will stand trial on February 7 on charges of drug smuggling, after he tried to smuggle 4.2kg of crystal methamphetamine in the resort island of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia last October.

Prosecutor Ketut Sujaya asked the Denpasar District Court to impose a death penalty on Bouikidis for attempting to bring such quantities of drugs into the country.

The amount of crystal meth found on Bouikidis is worth approximately 1.2 million dollars.

The Greek defendant, who works as a bus driver in Greece, was arrested at Ngurah Rai International Airport on October 3 and told the police authorities he was paid 5,000 dollars to deliver the drugs to someone named “Mr. Cameron” in Jakarta.

The Jakarta police tried to set up an operation to track down top members of the drug ring with the help of Bouikidis, but the latter tried to escape.
