“One Earth” Humanitarian Mission Travels to Kilimanjaro, Volos

Three people from Volos, who are members of the humanitarian organization “One Earth” and with the Greek Rescue Team departed today, on July 21st for Kilimanjaro. They are John Gregoriou, Alekos Chatzicharalampous and Apostolis Aplantis, who will try to conquer the summit of the tallest mountain in Africa, reaching 5,895 meters.
Before leaving for their trip, the delegation members visited the Mayor of Volos Panos Skotiniotis, who reported the attempt of the ascent and its purpose. This will raise money from sponsors and subscribers to complete drilling in a poor community in the Taveta region , in western Kenya. The humanitarian organization “One Earth” from Volos will complete the project.
As reported by the expedition members, it is the first time they attempt to climb at such a high altitude and their aim is to achieve it within a period of 6 days. The climbers will try to reach their goal despite the tough conditions in such high altitudes, such as the lack of oxygen and the very low temperatures which fall to – 20 degrees.
Skotiniotis congratulated the three men from Volos on the initiative and wished them a successful mission.  As he noted, it is of special interest for the municipality of Volos, since two of its three members are municipal employees.
