The President of Greek Republic Karolos Papoulias arrived on July 12th in the Grove of Nations, in Jerusalem, as part of his official visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Papoulias symbolically planted a tree, and said that: “The Greek people want to express their deep feelings of friendship to the ancient population of the region, the people of Israel, with whom we share common historical and cultural experiences but also the common vision for progress, peace and security. ”
Papoulias, shortly before departing for Ramallah, where he will meet Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas, expressed his hopes that Greek-Israeli relations will flourish, just as the tree he planted will for the benefit of our countries and all peoples of the region. “
