Somali Pirates Free Greek Owned Tanker off Omani Coast

Authorities in Greece on Friday said Somali pirates have released a Greek-owned tanker captured two months ago, off the coast of Oman.
The MV Irene was seized in the Arabian Sea on February 9th, about 200 nautical miles south-east of Oman.
The ship was en route from Mina al Ahmadi in Kuwait to the Gulf of Mexico, with a cargo of 2 million barrels of crude oil.
According to the statement from the Ministry of Merchant Marine, the crew of 25, of whom seven are Greek, are well and the ship will continue on its voyage to Durban, South Africa.
The managers of the MV Irene, the Pireaus-based company Enesel, did not say whether a ransom was paid for the release of the ship.
Attacks have continued by pirates off of East Africa demanding millions of dollars in ransom, despite the presence of a flotilla of international warships.
