Exhibition of Unique Icons Opens in Moscow

Greek icons of the post-Byzantine period have been brought to Moscow. The exposition under the title Synaxis has been opened in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.

It represents more than 130 works of the Greek and Russian icon-painting schools. St. George holding his own cut-off head in his hands is not a triumpher, but a martyr. And here is St. Demetrius as the Victorious Soldier! It seems that the Greek icon exhibition has lots of similar changes of habitual images.

Meanwhile the exhibition Synaxis will be shown only in Moscow, but then, quite possibly, it will tour round large cities of Russia.
