Events in Commemoration of Greek Writer Kazantzakis

kazantzakisThe International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis (DEFNK) is organizing events in South America and also in the Greek writer’s birthplace of Heraklion, Crete to welcome the new year.

On January 7, the Spanish translation of Kazantzakis’ “Odyssey” will be presented in Santiago, Chile by the university professor and founder of the Chilean Department of DEFNK, Miguel Castillo Didier.

University professor Theodora Tsichlis, chairman at the department of DEFNK in Costa Rica and with origins from Chania, Crete, will be organizing every 15 days, starting from January 15, coffee meetings concerning the work of Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis.

Elena Avramidou, associate professor at the Beijing University will give a lecture on January 20 in Lima, Peru on “How China views Kazantzakis.”

In Heraklion, Greece, the local committee of DEFNK will organize a Cretan painters exhibition, inspired by the work of Kazantzakis. The exhibition will take place from January 12 to January 28 in the Basilica Church of Saint Mark. On January 25, students from the 5th Heraklion High-School will present essays entitled “Crete Through the Eyes of Nikos Kazantzakis.”
