Iliadis Wins Judo World Bronze

iliadis(1)Ilias Iliadis won the bronze medal in the Judo World Championships 2013 that took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from Aug. 26-Sept. 1 after winning five out of six matches.

He had won the bronze last year in the 2012 Olympic games and was ranked third in the world in his weight class and won the gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

He prevailed by Ippon (0:39 before the end of five minutes) during repechage finals over Joakim Dvärby of Sweden.

This is the fifth medal for Iliadis in world championships, as in 2010 and 2011 he won the gold medal and in 2005 and 2007 he won the silver medal.

He scored victories in preliminary rounds against Milan Randl (Slovakia), Guillaume Elmont (Netherlands), Chingiz Mamedov (Kyrgyzstan) and Karolis Bauza (Lithuania).

In the semi-finals he was defeated by Yuko from Asley Gonzalez of Cuba, who ranked second in the world coming into the event but advanced to the match for the bronze.
