Argentinian-Greek Links Rising

Puerto-Madero-Buenos-Aires-ArgentinaDuring the first nine months of 2012 Greek imports from Argentina increased by 26.5% (from 72.6 to 91.8 million euros) while at the same time that exports decreased by 25.6% (from 3.9 to 2.9 million euros).

The Greek embassy’s report in Buenos Aires stated that Argentina has attracted the interest of Greek investors in shipping (Navios,) construction (Libra,) telecommunications (Intralot,) wine production (Krontiras,) and the food industry (Pavlildis).

Tere are many other companies located in Argentina, from immigrants as well as Argentines of Greek descent, which have formed the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Greece-Argentina, based in Buenos Aires.

According to data, tourist arrivals from Argentina to Greece increased from 5,462 in 2005 to 17,772 in 2010 and 21,912 in 2011. During the January-June 2012 period, tourist arrivals more than doubled again.

It was noted that “Argentines who visit Greece are, apparently, in the middle or upper class of the country. Greek islands are an exotic destination for Argentines to travel to, while price maintenance or even price reduction in Greek tourist resorts has not gone unnoticed, but therefore means a unique opportunity for Argentines to visit our country”.

Finally, it was stated that the deficit in bilateral trade balance with Argentina is narrowed by 32.4% in 2011, due to a general growth of Greek exports and a depreciation imports from the South American country.
