Jewish Company Says Church Didn’t Pay Water Bills

A Jewish company is claiming the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate owes an outstanding water bill since 1969 that has reached 1.8 million euros, or $2.33 million.

Five months ago, the water service company was sold and the new company, after checking past records, said it discovered that officials over Resurrection Temple over the years had never paid any bills.

Representatives from Patriarchate told the new company it is not obliged to pay and have asked for it to be cancelled and that it would start paying from now on. The company refused and said it would seek to block bank accounts of Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.

The water supply system is also used by the Franciscan, Armenian and Greek communities, although only the Patriarchate has been pursued for non-payment.
