Greece to Close Its Embassy in Damascus Due to Upheaval

According to a Greek Foreign Ministry statement, Greece’s Embassy in Damascus, Syria is about to close due to the deteriorating security situation in the country.

“The Foreign Ministry is watching developments in Syria, is evaluating the security situation and has decided to close the Greek Embassy in Damascus,” stated the press release of the ministry.

Ministry’s spokesman Giorgos Delavekouras stressed that the Greek state has been on alert all these days in case the need to evacuate the Embassy arose.

“Without losing their temper and being always focused on the security of Greek citizens,” the Greek Ministry calls on diplomats of Damascus to leave the Embassy.

All employees of the embassy have been given detailed instructions should the situation gets even more worse. Many European countries have already announced the closure of their embassies in the Syrian capital.
