SYRIZA MP Rena Dourou gave an interview to a TV show in Venezuela. Mrs Dourou visited the Southern American country to attend the international Forum of Leftists taking place in Caracas.
This trip has clearly symbolic overtones since Venezuela is regarded as one of world’s most important leftist countries.
In regards to the EU’s debt crisis, Rena Dourou commented that this is a systemic crisis and compared it to Latin America’s crisis in the 1990s.
SYRIZA’s eminent member Dourou added that her party has for long cooperated with Hugo Chavez’s party and expressed the hope that, especially after Greece’s June 17th election, the relationship between these two parties will be totally equal.
The show broadcast the attack of far-right MP towards Rena Dourou. The latter commented that this was not a personal attack, “besides, it was just water,” she said. “But we talk about the debt crisis and this incident shows crisis in democracy,” continued Mrs Dourou. In the next few days, Rena Dourou is expected to meet with President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez.
