Estonian Private Security Company Repels Somali Pirates Hijacking Greek Freighter

ESC Global Security, a private security company from Estonia, opened fire to deter 8 Somali pirates from hijacking a Greek freighter sailing off the coast of Somalia on Tuesday, February 28, at 15:00.

Accodring to information provided by the company, the pirates were armed with AK-47 assault rifles and one RPG and were aboard another vessel trying to approach the Greek ship.

After all other measures had failed to turn the pirates away, the company opened fire against them. The company also contacted the EU naval operation forces in the country for reinforcements but after one hour the pirates had given up their efforts and no further action was needed.
