Greek Flag Raised on Mount Kenya

“I’d rather live one day like a lion than a hundred like a sheep”. This is Nikos Magitsi’s motto who has managed to climb to the highest mountain summits of the five continents. The 42-year-old climber from Volos, who has stepped on the “7 summits”, recently stepped on Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro. The mission of the Greek team, in which 21-year-old George Raios from Volos participated, started on the 22nd of February 2011 and was completed on the 4th of March. The ascent of the mountain lasted eight days. Referring to the difficulties of the mission, the 42-year-old climber underlined that there were many and constant “obstacles” during the ascent and the descent. However, he said that they worked as a team and helped each other quickly and effectively. The climber mentioned that the characteristic of Mount Kenya is that, despite the main volume of the summits being very close to the Equator line, over 4,600 meters of altitude there is snow and the impressive Lewis Glacier, which unfortunately is significantly diminished year by year.
