Greek Orthodox Patriarchate Rents Land to Investors, Jerusalem

On the 10th of March, the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem rented large tracts of Jerusalem land to a group of Jewish investors for the next 140 years, with a right of renewal. This group includes the Ben-David family, one of the richest families of Jerusalem, which is the largest shareholder of Givot Olam Oil company. The Patriarchate sold 85 m2 of “Holy Land’s” best parts, in Rechavia, Talbieh, Baka and Katamon neighborhoods. From now on, Jerusalem belongs to large Israeli areas, while the land of the Patriarchate is already being shared in the name of the National Jewish Fund. Apart from the fact that a big part of the Patriarchate’s property now belongs to Jewish investors, the cost of the rent is shockingly low (80 million NIS, no more than 20 million Euros).
