Moscow Youth Children’s Choir Performs Greek Songs

The Moscow children’s and youth choir “Youth” performed at the European Square at the International Exhibition Expo-2010 in Shanghai on Friday.
The children began their performance with Russian songs popular in China such as “Podmoskovnye Vechera” and “Kalinka”. Crowds gathered to hear the young singers perform without any musical backup despite the 40 Celsius degree heat (104 degrees in  Fahrenheit).

The younger Chinese generation really enjoyed the performance. “That music can tell a lot about Russia and touch the hearts of different people,” said 25-year-old Li Yan from the city Chenzhou.
Youth Children’s Choir was organized in 1990 and include in their repertoire music from the 19th through the 21st centuries. They perform spiritual music which includes Russian Orthodox Church music and Russian folk songs.

The most impressive fact is that they sang also ancient Greek chants!

The 2010 Shanghai World Expo will be held from May 1st to October 31st, 2010. More than 200 countries, regions, international organizations and companies are taking part in the event. Up to 70 million people are expected to visit the city for the event which has a forecasted investment of up to $4 billion.
