SAE President, holds a number of contacts and discussions on Education provided in Greek language

A series of contacts and meetings were held in Alexandria yesterday by the President of the World Council of Hellenes Abroad, Mr. Stefanos P.Tamvakis, focusing on the main axis of Education and Culture in Greek, within the framework of exchanges which will be held by the Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious affairs.
A common finding from the meetings of SAE President was that “the Greek Diaspora realize and understand the current economic situation in Greece and support the efforts that our homeland is making in order to overcome all the hardships it is facing”, as it was pointed out by Mr. Tamvakis.
“Of course, the teaching of the Greek language in Greek Schools of the Diaspora, the preservation of our Greek nature and our Community and the continuation and perpetuation of the Greek presence in our historical homes, is an utmost and primary duty”, stresses among other things, Mr. Tamvakis.

The President of SAE was accepted by the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, whereby a discussion was held on issues of vital importance concerning the Patriarchate in Egypt and all Africa. More specifically, the following issues were discussed:
a)The continuation of the uninterrupted operation of the School of the Great Athanasios in Alexandria, whereby many young youths from all Africa are taught the Greek language and Culture
b)The operation of the Historical Library of the Patriarchate, which was recently renovated and hosts invaluable books, scrolls and codes.
c)The support of the great and dedicated work of the Mission which is performed by the Head of the Church of Alexandria and the Metropolitans of the Throne in all Africa.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tamvakis had a meeting with the Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Mr. Georgios Diakofotakis on ways to tackle the problems regarding the operation of Greek Schools in Alexandria, which are currently going through their second century of their continuous and uninterrupted operation.
A common course on the issue of the continuation of the operation of Greek Schools and the teaching of Greek language in Egypt has been carried out both by SAE and the Eldest Greek Communities of Alexandria and Cairo.

The President of the Greek Community of Alexandria, Mr. Giannis Siokas, along with the 1st Vice President and Head of the School Inspectorate, Mr. Dimitris Vafeiadis and the Board of the Greek Community of Alexandria, have taken up initiatives on this issue, in continuous collaboration with the President of SAE and are calling all Heads of Organizations and Bodies of the city as well as community members on a meeting in order to discuss and seek appropriate solutions and then make recommendations to the community and the Greek state.

Furthermore, Mr. Tamvakis had a meeting in his office with the General Secretary of the Greek Community of Cairo, Mr. Antonis Iordanidis, who conveyed the greetings of the President of the Greek Community of Cairo, Mr. Christos Kavalis. During the meeting moves which must be taken in the near future were discussed, as well as the coordination of activities and institutional bodies and organizations of the Greek Diaspora in Egypt, in order to achieve the desired results.
Meanwhile, the President of SAE is in communication with the Coordinators of SAE Regions who have also addressed the local problems which have risen in the area of Education provided in the Greek language.
“It is everyone’s wish to find an appropriate and fitting solution to the great issue of education which is of vital importance, whilst taking into consideration the current difficult situation in our beloved homeland” concluded the President of SAE, Mr. Stefanos Tamvakis.
